The Counts of Modica Castle, also known as the Alcamo Castle, stands imposingly in the historic center of the town, dominating the skyline with its medieval structure. Its construction, begun around 1340 by the Peralta family and completed in 1350 under the Chiaramonte, marked Alcamoβs history, serving for centuries as a feudal residence and defensive stronghold.
History
A Massive and Fascinating Architecture
From the outside, the castle presents an impregnable aspect, characterized by a rhomboid layout and four towersβtwo cylindrical and two squareβthat accentuated its grandeur. Its thick, crenellated walls tell tales of sieges and battles, standing firm against enemy incursions, including the famous attack by the pirate Barbarossa.

An Immersion in Sicilian History
Beyond its military function, the castle played a fundamental role in the social and political life of its time. Within its walls, elegant chambers hosted banquets, celebrations, and meetings, while its halls echoed with the voices of illustrious figures such as Emperor Charles V and Eleanor of Aragon.
