History and Architects

Its origins date back to the 14th century, but its present appearance is the result of a 1669 reconstruction, the work of architects Angelo Italia and Giuseppe Diamante. The neoclassical façade, by contrast, dates to 1786.

The basilica has a three-nave basilica plan, divided by two rows of monolithic columns made of Monte Bonifato red marble. Inside, we admire the stucco work by the Curti family and the floor designed by the architect Giuseppe Patricolo.

The basilica houses a rich artistic heritage, among which stands out a fresco triptych by the Flemish painter Guglielmo Borremans depicting the Assumption of the Madonna.
